Bluesky — how to connect

Posts text casts (up to 300 characters) to your Bluesky account via the AT Protocol. No app keys needed — paste your handle and an App Password (not your main password) when you connect.

Bluesky uses simple handle + App Password auth (AT Protocol createSession) — no developer app registration or OAuth approval needed.

Before you start

A Bluesky account with its handle already set (e.g. you.bsky.social, or a custom domain handle) — the account must be active, not locked, and email-verified.
An App Password generated from Settings > Privacy and Security > App Passwords (bsky.app/settings/app-passwords) — never use your main account login password here, especially if 2FA/email verification is enabled.
If the account lives on a self-hosted or third-party PDS (not bsky.social), know that PDS host URL to enter in the optional "PDS host" field; leave it blank only for standard bsky.social-hosted accounts.
Any images you plan to post already sized under Bluesky's per-image upload limit (~1MB) since this integration uploads raw blobs and does not support video.

Step by step

Log in to Bluesky
Sign in at bsky.app with the account you want to connect.

Open App Passwords settings
Go to Settings, then under Advanced (or Privacy and Security) click App Passwords.

Add a new App Password
Click Add App Password, give it a name like 'social-manager', and confirm.

Copy the generated password immediately
Bluesky shows a one-time password in the form xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx that you cannot view again.

Note your handle
Copy your exact handle (e.g. you.bsky.social) to use as the Handle/identifier value.

Paste both values into the app
Enter the handle as Identifier and the app password as App password; leave PDS host blank unless your account is on a custom/self-hosted PDS.

Good to know

Always use an App Password, never your main account password — the adapter's password field is explicitly for app passwords, not the login password.
App Passwords cannot delete the account, migrate the account, or create other app passwords, but they can post, read, and manage most content — treat the value as sensitive.
The one-time password display (xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx) is shown only once at creation time; if lost, delete it and generate a new one.
Leave PDS host empty unless the account is hosted on a custom Personal Data Server other than bsky.social — the adapter defaults to https://bsky.social.
No developer app registration, review, or scope approval is required for this credentials flow, unlike other providers.

Troubleshooting

Connect fails with an auth error (createSession 401 / "Invalid identifier or password") even though the handle and password look correct.: You're almost certainly using your real account password. Generate a fresh App Password at bsky.app/settings/app-passwords (format xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx) and paste that instead. If app-password creation itself failed silently (the name field turns red / a 400 comes back), retry with a shorter, plain-alphanumeric name for the app password.
Connect worked previously but posts now fail to publish with an authorization error.: Bluesky's accessJwt is short-lived (minutes), and this adapter does not auto-refresh via the stored refreshJwt yet. Reconnect the account in the integration settings to obtain a fresh session, then retry the post.
Post with images fails during upload (uploadBlob error) or images are silently dropped.: Bluesky caps images at 4 per post and enforces a per-image size ceiling (roughly 1MB); resize/compress large images before attaching. Video is not supported by this integration at all — remove any video attachment and post text/images only.
Connect times out or returns 404s despite correct handle/app password.: The account likely lives on a custom or third-party PDS rather than bsky.social. Enter the account's actual PDS host in the optional "PDS host" field (e.g. https://your-pds.example.com) instead of leaving it on the bsky.social default.
